An exchange of gunfire a little after 9 p.m. Friday cut short a party in the Northridge area leaving two men seriously injured.

"Apparently there was some sort of Halloween celebration going on with predominately Hispanics," Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong said. "There was very intensive gunfire with multiple weapons."

About 100 teenagers were at 2654 Longridge Drive. According to witnesses at the party, a rush of people left the house shortly before about 20 shots rang out.

One Hispanic man, aged 20, was taken to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his head.

A second Hispanic male was transported by private vehicle to the Carson hospital with two gunshot wounds to the chest.

Both men were transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno where the head wound victim is reportedly in critical condition and the man with gunshot wounds to the chest is in satisfactory condition.

The shooting is considered gang related. However, according to witnesses, the man shot in the head is thought to have not been the intended target and is believed not to be a gang member.

Officers at the scene corralled the teens at the party, many crying and visibly shaken at the violent events. They were frisked for weapons, and their parents called to pick them up one by one.

Thirteen law enforcement units, including one gang unit, were investigating the scene of the gun battle, which was expected to continue through Friday night.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call Carson City dispatch at 887-2007.
