Hal V. Dunn

A funeral for Hal V. Dunn, 71, a 46-year Northern Nevada resident, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church at 1559 Sewell Drive in Elko. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church at 306 W. Musser St. in Carson City.

Mr. Dunn died Oct. 26, 2006. He was born Feb. 17, 1935, in Hartford, Conn., to Harold V. Dunn Sr. and Ethel C. Dunn.

He received a bachelor's degree in management from California Coast University, a certificate in public administration from the University of Nevada and his jurist doctorate from Southland University.

He was a law enforcement officer in Virginia City and Carson City from 1960-69; a Nevada Gaming Control Board agent from 1969-75; Carson City undersheriff from 1975-76; Carson City Sheriff from 1979-87; Wells City Manager from 1988-89; Wells Chief of Police from 1987-89; and Whittier, Alaska Chief of Police from 1989-91. He retired from Newmont Mining Corp. as head of security.

He served in the National Guard in Washington, D.C., before relocating to the Nevada National Guard in 1958.

He was president of the Nevada Sheriff's and Chief's Association from 1980-81; a member of the Northern Nevada Peace Officer's Association; a member of the Token and Medal Society and a lifetime member of the American Numismatic Association.

He enjoyed exonumia, writing and Western and Nevada history.

Among his survivors are his wife Sharon Dunn; son and daughter-in-law John and Annette Dunn of Cameron Park, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law Linda and Kevin Brucker of Fort Collins, Colo.; stepson and daughter-in-law Paul and Kelly Fisher of Newport, Wash.; stepdaughter and son-in-law Dena Montoya and Richard Harpster; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

A private family burial will take place at Lone Mountain Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Elko.
