Shamaness to teach totem and talisman making

Togram Zasal, a Shamaness from Stagecoach schooled in ancient Siberian spiritual tradition will host a totem and talisman workshop 1-4 p.m. at the Spiritual Living Center, 675 Fairview Drive.

Attendees will make their own talisman and totems. Cost is $20.

All materials are provided, however you are encouraged to bring any piece of crystal, rock, bead, feather, wood or other natural object that has a special meaning.

Refreshments, tea and coffee will be provided free, water and other drinks are $1.

Chamber to host breakfast, mixer

The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce will host a breakfast from 7:30 to 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Greater Nevada Credit Union on Highway 50 in Dayton.

A continental breakfast will be served for those at this networking meeting.

The chamber will host its monthly mixer from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at TRU Hair Studio in Occidental Square. Raffles and door prizes will be offered. Call 246-7909

Market featuring local farmers

The Farmers Fun Day Harvest Day will e9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Custom Gardens Organic Farm. 3701 Elm St. in Silver Springs

The three farms to be represented are Churchill Butte Horticulture of Stagecoach, Home Grown Nevada of Wellington and the host farm, Custom Gardens of Silver Springs.

A variety of produce, vegetables and fruit, grown at the three local farms, will be available for fresh food shoppers.

Senior citizens may redeem Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons for fresh produce.

This is the first such gathering of Lyon County Organic Producers. Another Fun Day Sunday is planned for Oct. 15.

Virginia City

Camel Races this weekend

Camels, ostriches and emus will be racing again in Virginia City at the International Camel Races through Sunday.

Today will feature the Media Races, where members of local media will race against one another for bragging rights and fun! Gates open at 1 p.m. and races begin at 1:30 all three days. This evening is the Camel Hump Ball and silent auction at the historic V&T Depot Proceeds benefit the Eagle Valley Children's Home.

On Saturday, the festivities will begin with the Grand Parade down C Street, featuring the camels, many floats and marchers, hot rods, llamas, and the Parading Arabian Equestrian Team. Races go all afternoon, camels, ostriches and emus In the evening there will be live music all over town. On Sunday, the race championships will be held.

Democrats to hold rummage sale

Storey County Democrats will hold a rummage sale on Saturday at the Masonic Building across from the fire station on C Street in Virginia City.

The sale will be held from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. at the Masonic Building.

Donated items can be brought to the building between 3:30-5:30 p.m. today.

Fallon

College to host art show with photos

Western Nevada Community College's Fallon campus welcomes "Remnants," a Rhonda L. Wilson photographic exhibition featuring timeworn leftovers of pioneers who carved out lives in the Great Basin.

The exhibit will hang in Virgil Getto Hall through Sept. 22.
