The Carson High boys soccer team survived a wild game at Manogue, winning 3-2 on Wednesday.

In a game filled with many yellow cards, Carson coach Jason Koop had to be concerned with making sure his players were eligible for Saturday's showdown at Douglas. Koop had to sit some of his players who received a yellow card to prevent them from receiving a second yellow card for a red card, thus making them ineligible for Douglas.

Carson goalie Brandon Briggs wasn't as fortunate as he received a red card on a wild play and will not be able to play against the Tigers. The Senators will play at 1 p.m. against the Tigers at Douglas, with the Carson-Douglas girls game to follow at 3 at Douglas.

The Miners scored in the first seven minutes when Briggs came out of the box to make a sliding tackle against a Manogue player. As a pushing a shoving match ensued, Manogue sent the loose ball into the net.

Briggs and a Manogue player each received a red card, leaving both teams to finish the game with 10 players. The goal was allowed to stand after it was ruled it was scored before the red cards. Christian Volker replaced Briggs at goalie.

Carson came back to tie it 1-1 when Mats Boehnke sent a free kick into the box, which was eventually gathered by Zach Weismann, who scored. Manogue scored on a deflected shot off of Volker, but one minue later, Weismann scored on a shot from 25 yards out to force a 2-2 tie at halftime. "It was great shot," Koop said.

Blake Moreland scored the winning goal when Manogue failed to clear a ball out of the box.

"Blake Moreland was there to clean it up," Koop said. "He was just in the right place at the right time."

Koop said Drew Heller, Andrew Hill, Boehnke and John Nuthall were among those who played well defensively. Volker also moved back into the field and Drew Good played the last eight minutes in goal. "Defensively it didn't matter who we had in, they did pretty well," Koop said.

Adam Updegrove played well at center midfield and Nik Marsh and Matt Tillitt also played well.

"We moved the ball pretty well," Koop said. "We did we as far as working as a unit."

Koop said Ryan Lee or Pedro Chavez would be pulled up from the junior varsity to play goalie against Douglas.
