Carson City


Senior center hosting 'September Swing' tonight


The Carson City Senior Citizens Center will be holding a "September Swing" dance from 7 - 10 p.m. tonight at the center.


Music will be provided by the Joe Rossi Band and dance lessons will be held by Thane Cornell from 6 - 7 p.m. Cost is $6 per person. For information call 883-0703.


Battle of the Bands this weekend


Jester's Joust: Battle of the Bands will start this afternoon at 1 p.m. at the west parking lot of the Carson Nugget.


There will be food and bands competing to win cash prizes. All proceeds go to benefit the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. For information visit www.cmnn.org/jestersjoust.


Seventh Tin Cup Tea and Chuck Wagon BBQ tonight


Governor Kenny Guinn and First Lady Dema Guinn will be hosting the Seventh Annual Tin Cup Tea and Chuck Wagon BBQ from 5 - 10 p.m. tonight at the Governor's Mansion, 606 N. Mountain St.


Cost is $45 per person and proceeds go towards the Nevada State Museum and other museums. For information call 687-4810 ext. 222.

Michael's celebrates Grandparents' day


Michael's Arts and Crafts Store, located at 911 Topsy Lane, is celebrating Grandparent's Day on Sunday with two giveaway baskets.


One is for those aged 18 and over, and one for those under 18. Entry is free and you must be present to win. The drawing is at 3 p.m.


Lyon County


Lyon County Republicans to hold golf tournament


The Lyon County Republican Central Committee is holding its annual golf tournament and dinner at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Dayton Valley Golf Club, 101 Palmer Drive.


Tickets for golf and dinner are $80; dinner only is $27. Golf starts at 1 p.m. and dinner at 5:30 p.m.

Reno


Reno Philharmonic to open season


The Reno Philharmonic opens its 38th season Sunday at 4. p.m. and Tuesday at 7:30 .p.m. with a concert of enchanting and exotic music. Tickets are $25 and up.


The Reno Philharmonic Association is kicking off the season a day early on Sept. 9 as a part of the Wine Walk. Celebrating 25 years of the Great Reno Balloon Races, the Wine Walk will feature guitarists from the Sierra Nevada Classical Guitar Society along the route.


The cost is $15 and includes, wine, map, and commemorative wine glass. The Reno Philharmonic will be a stop on the walk at the Pioneer Center Plaza with food, wine and music.


The Wine Walk runs from 2 to 5 p.m. Call 323-6393.
