Christy Works, Kristin Dockery and freshman Yvonne Hollett ran stride for stride with each other and combined to help the Carson High girls cross country team capture second-place Friday afternoon at the Reed Invitational in Sparks.
Works placed ninth, Dockery 10th and Hollett 11th - all with identical times of 22 minutes, 40 seconds over Reed's 3.1-mile course - and the Senators wound up second as a team behind perennial Northern 4A power Reno.
Reno swept the top four places to finish with 16 points, while Carson outdistanced Galena by a 68-85 margin to take second.

Chad Shroy, a senior, placed third as he ran 17:35 over a 5K course that included a climb over challenging Shadow Mountain. Richard Shroy, a freshman, wasn't far behind as he finished ninth in 18:12. Reno's John Lawrence won the race in 17:24, followed across the finish line by Galena's Bryan Tibaduiza in 17:30.
Reno cruised to the team title with 32 points, ahead of Galena with 63 points and Carson with 87.
