BLUE LAKES AREA, CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930): Its been a little bit quiet here. We had our annual Chili Cook Off and Crafts Fair last weekend, so I don't have a fishing report.
BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Randy Picton of the Bridgeport Reservoir RV Park and Marina (888-377-1677): The fishing continues to be good to very good for most anglers, and very excellent for the rest.
Floating nightcrawlers 3 to 4 feet off of the bottom in 15 feet of water is the ticket for fairly easy limits of these hungry footballs. North end of Buckeye Bay to Rainbow Point continues to be the best bait area. Trolling has improved with the cooler weather from Paradise Shores to the dam. Flashers with nightcrawlers or small Rapalas have shown very good results.
Try working the edges of the weed patches just off of the marina also. Fly fishers using streamers such as punk Perch, green and orange Leeches have been very successful.
CONVICT LAKE, CALIF: The Convict Lake Resort (800-992-2260): Big fish of the week were a 7.06 pound rainbow caught on nightcrawlers at the Marina, a 6.50 pound rainbow on a Thomas Buoyant lure at the Inlet, a 6.04 pound rainbow on a Thomas Buoyant lure from the south shore and a 5.12 pound rainbow on a Needlefish lure from the south shore.
FEATHER RIVER, CALIF: Dave Jacobs/Hank Mautz (Professional Guide Service) (800-355-3113): Anglers can expect best bite early in the mornings back-bouncing sardine wrapped K-15 or K-16 Kwikfish lures in silver or gold color combos. Look to switch over to roe tipped with a Quickie in hot pink or flame colors, back-bounced or mooched in deeper holes as the sun gets on the water. Most productive water has been from the outlet downstream above Gridley with some good bank fishing opportunities upstream in the low flow section near Oroville. Driftboaters have also reported good fishing in the low flow section of the Feather. Salmon have been averaging 18-22 pounds, with the occasional big 30+ pound salmon being caught. Salmon season will be closing on September 30.
FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot, Calif. (530-993-4683): Bank fishing is good at the dam and also near the old boat ramp. Most fishermen are using nightcrawlers. Various colors of Power Bait are also working well.
HEENAN LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that a couple of his friends did pretty well from their float tubes, catching and releasing Cutts on spoons.
JUNE LAKE LOOP, CALIF: Steven Osterman reported: Rush Creek flow is up to 101 CFS. Grant Lake at the flume: Try purple double bunny's, black Woolly Buggers and black Matukas.
LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: Paul Saucedo and Wally Bennett, both of Carson City, each caught and released over 100 White Bass in about 4 hours on Tuesday. They began trolling about 25 yards in front of the Silver Springs Boat Ramp and caught bass everywhere they tried on all types of different lures.
PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Opens to Lahontan Cutthroat Trout fishing on Oct. 1.
SACRAMENTO RIVER: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing, Redding, Calif. (800-670-4448): King Salmon: Fishing for kings is good, Anderson area, will keep getting better. On average catching 2-4 salmon a day. Some days better than others, looks like a late year. Watch salmon fishing go from good to red hot in the months of October and November. Huge salmon this year. Seeing salmon up to 44 pounds already. All salmon are 20 pounds average. All salmon being caught using Worden's Flatfish lures, T-50's , Chrome, with a sardine wrap.
SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Dave Jacobs/Hank Mautz (Professional Guide Service) (800-355-3113) or (530-365-8140): Fishing for king salmon has continued to be fair. Most anglers are reporting 2-4 fish per boat for salmon averaging 18-26 pounds. Most productive water has varied from day to day from the Barge Hole near Anderson, down stream to Chico. Best bets have been sardine wrapped K-15 or K-16 Kwikfish lures in silver or gold color combos. Roe tipped with a flame colored Quickie puffball has also produced some nice bright kings. Back- bouncing or drifting has been the two most productive techniques. Bonus fish of the week was a 21 pound striper caught back bouncing roe.
TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina (775) 266-3550: There have been a lot of people out fishing lately and they have been doing real good. Especially those fishing from shore with nightcrawlers. Trolling has slowed down a little. No one is trolling the east side anymore. They are trolling with flashers and nightcrawlers.
TWIN LAKES, CALIF: Upper Twin Lake: Annett's Mono Village (760-932-7071): A 7-pound, 1-ounce rainbow on a trolled Rapala lure, a 5-pound, 4-ounce rainbow on rainbow Power Bait from shore, a 4-pound, 1-ounce brown on a Trout Teaser and Adam Henriquez of Yerington caught a 4-pound, 1-ounce rainbow on green Power Bait. Stringers coming in on nightcrawlers from shore and boats.
WALKER RIVERS, CALIF: Steven Osterman reported: The flow in the East Walker is currently 218 CFS. The lower water flow makes the fish some what warier. A careful approach is a must. Presentation is critical.
WILDHORSE RESERVOIR, NEV: Dennis Dunn at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472: It is raining right now (Wednesday morning), and it is snowing about 300 feet above us. It has gotten down to as low as 12 degrees at night. The fishing is still excellent and getting even better for both shore fishermen and boats. The rainbows are running up to about 3-4 pounds. With the rain, our fire danger is now over.
