Paced by first-place performances from Chad Shroy and Christy Works in their respective races, the Carson High boys and girls cross country teams cruised past North Valleys and Wooster during a three-way Sierra League meet on Wednesday in Reno.

Works ran the hilly 3.1-mile course at North Valleys in a time of 22 minutes, 48 seconds to edge teammates Kristin Dockery and Yvonne Hollett for first-place in the girls race. Meanwhile, Shroy finished alone out front to win the boys race in 17:19.

Carson's girls outdistanced North Valleys 17-45 for the team win. Carson's boys won with a perfect score of 15, since neither North Valleys or Wooster fielded complete teams.

Dockery finished just a step behind Works with a 22:49 clocking and Hollett, a freshman, was third in 22:52. Gloria Sosa was fifth for Carson in 23:48, followed by Jenny Mital in 24:54, Yvette Hollett in 24:54 and Meagan Meyer in 25:05.

Shroy was followed to the finish line by his brother, freshman Richard Shroy, who finished third in 18:19. Nick Schlager ran 19:28, Caleb Carter 19:59, Ethan Graber 20:30 and Andrew Stevenson 20:33 for Carson.

The Senators travel to Grass Valley, Calif., on Saturday to compete at the Nevada Union Invitational.
