The Carson High girls soccer team gained the upper hand early in the Sierra League race over a couple of opponents with a 3-2 win over Damonte Ranch on Saturday at CHS.
Carson (2-2-1, 2-0-1) has the upper hand in the first round over Damonte and Douglas in the league race. The Senators and Tigers tied 1-1 and Damonte beat Douglas 1-0. "A big win for the standings," Carson coach Randy Roser said.
While Carson allowed a goal in the final four minutes to make things a little interesting, it was an otherwise impressive effort for the Senators.
"It ws a great match all the way around," Roser said. "The passing was tremendous. It was great that we got to play everybody."
The Senators also had other players step up to supply most of the offense, not having to totally depend on Brandi Vega and Kayla Sanchez. Freshmen Brenda Luquin had a goal and an assist, Ann Sinnott scored, Anna Macquarie had an assist and Vega scored the other goal on an assist by Rebecca Kane.
Roser also praised Amanda Osborne's play. "She had a great offensive game," he said.
Roser also praised the play of Taylor Musselman and the defensive play of Belle Fleming, Macquarie and Brandy Cantly.

Emily Field scored three goals for Carson. Defenders Samantha Fishburn, Kristina Kane and Julianne King and goalie Danica Sheldon combined to post the shutout.
