The Carson High boys soccer team was understandably not at its best in what could be considered a "sandwich" game, but the Senators took care of business in a 2-0 win at Wooster on Wednesday.
It was Carson's third game in five days as it was coming off of games against South Tahoe and North Tahoe. The game also came before Saturday's 1 p.m. showdown with Reno High at CHS. Reno will come into the game at 6-0 in the Sierra League while Carson will come in at 5-1.
"Not exciting to be honest with you," Carson coach Jason Koop said. "It was kind of ugly. Not much enthusiasm."
Carson took a 1-0 halftime lead when Jason Mather scored on a header off of Drew Good's corner kick. "It was a great goal for Jason," Koop said.
Zach Weismann stole the ball at midfield and created his own breakaway to score Carson's other goal. "It was a great finish," Koop said.
Carson outshot Wooster 15-8.
"They have the size and the speed," said Koop about Reno. "I think we'll match up well with them. I think we can play with them. I think it will be a great match. It will be fun."
RENO 4, DOUGLAS 2
Douglas (9-3, 3-3) overcame a 2-0 deficit to force a 2-2 tie at halftime, but Reno took control in the second half.
"I'm obviously not happy with the result, but I was happy with the effort," Douglas coach Milko Vasquez said.
Michael Gransbery scored both of the Tigers' goals to give him 20 for the year and 51 for his career. He scored on a penalty kick after Edgar Arceo drew a foul and then scored on a breakaway off of a long pass from Eddie Vega.
Vasquez praised the play of Arceo, who moved from forward to defense. Goalie Jose Alcaraz also had an outstanding game, finishing with eight saves. Vasquez also praised the play of Vega, Derek Cantley and Oscar Gonzalez.
CHS JVS 5, WOOSTER 1
Uriel Duran scored three goals and Victor Arreguin scored the other two for Carson. Brian Duran, Miguel Camacho, Ian Gunn and Jorge Guevara all had one assist.
Goalies Pedro Chavez and Ryan Lee combined for the win. Christian Limos, Javier Barrios and Luis Gonzalez also played well.
DOUGLAS JVS 2, RENO 1
Ben Wood scored in the second half to break a 1-1 tie to give Douglas the win. Cole Kline scored the Tigers' other goal.
Goalie Corbin Zumpf made four saves. Others who played well included Fabian Ramos, Nick Hales, Bill Sunderland, Oscar Shick, Brian Randall and Jeff Crozier.
