A 33-year-old Indian Hills man was charged with assault with a deadly weapon after his 26-year-old tenant claimed the suspect came after him with a medieval replica ax for using the bathroom without permission.

The victim suffered a 1-inch cut to his right hand and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Klint Scott Putnam was jailed on $25,000 bail.

Deputies were called to the residence in the 900 block of Tourmaline at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday by the victim who met them outside the residence. The 19-inch double-bladed ax was on the roof of a vehicle and deputies could see blood on his hand.

The 26-year-old told authorities that he and his girlfriend were living in the suspect's garage for $100 a week, but that Putnam was trying to evict them.

He said an argument broke out because the suspect used the bathroom in Putnam's house. According to the victim, he was not allowed to use the facilities when Putnam was in the residence.

Putnam arrived home Tuesday and started yelling because the man was using the bathroom.

He said Putnam began pounding on the door and rushed at him with the ax when he opened the door. He cut his hand deflecting the attack.

Deputies found a 26-inch shaft that separated in the middle exposing two double-edged swords on Putnam's bed and a throwing knife which they confiscated.
