Carson High graduate Sarah Stalling and the Southwestern Community College women's soccer team of Coos Bay, Ore., continued to roll this past weekend.
On Friday, Southwestern beat Green River 6-1 and on Saturday it defeated Skagit Valley 7-0. Stalling, a sophomore, is a team captain. While Stalling didn't score over the weekend, she narrowly missed scoring on several shots.
Scholars and Champions to open
The Scholars and Champions Youth Football League kicks off its third season on Sunday with five games at Carson High.
More than 200 boys and girls ages 8-14 make up 11 teams and one cheer squad in this year's league. Among the requirements of student-athletes in the league is to complete weekly progress reports and maintain positive citizenship.
Every player who meets the requirements of the league earns a starting position and plays the whole game. There's also a fifth quarter where every player has a chance to run the ball, throw a pass or try a new position.
Student-athletes in the league also don't participate in any fundraising. In October, several teams will participate in community service projects, including hosting a "Special Kids Football Camp," for handicapped youth.
Games begin at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. each Sunday through November 19 at CHS. Admission is free. Carson High's Football Boosters will have a snack bar, which includes pizza and cold drinks.
Rasner takes first loss for the Yankees
