Saturday is the annual Capital City Memory Walk in Carson City.
To support the Alzheimer's Association of Northern Nevada, guests of Share the Day adult center are preparing to walk the walk.
"I've been looking forward to it for some time," said Kay Ferreira of Carson City. "We were out for a walk this morning getting ready."
Ferreira and several others from the center, including director Jody Stella and other staff and volunteers, have been taking walks to condition themselves for the 1-mile Memory Walk along Carson City's historic west side.
Through donations, volunteers and sponsors of walkers, money raised is used for Alzheimer's research, grants and programs in Northern Nevada.
There is no cost to participate, and sponsorship can be made in any dollar amount. A breakfast will be available at 8:30 a.m.; registration is from 9-10 a.m.; and the walk is 10:30-11:30 a.m. A barbecue is also available for a $5 donation after the walk.
"We've been working hard for about two months to get ready," said Stella. "Getting plenty of hydration and smart snacks to keep us healthy."
Other guests participating include Matilda Bourne, Karyl Summers, Mary Harold, Paula Speakman and Evelyn Seiffert.
Volunteers for the walk include David, Jacob, Olivia and Jenna Stella.
"We did a group sponsor for the walk," Stella said. "We held a bake sale and made $155 to give to the walk.
"We have a lot of family and friends helping out. It all goes to a good cause."
Tickets for a drawing for handmade quilt are $1 each, or six for $5; as are raffle tickets for numerous prizes.
