Four-legged friends are the focus of the second annual It's a DAWG'S Day Animal Awareness Event coming Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Douglas County Fairgrounds indoor pavilion.
Sponsored by Douglas Animal Welfare Group, the event features a low-cost microchip and vaccination clinic, consultations with animal behavior specialists, pet photography and caricatures, games for people and pets, special speakers and dog adoptions. Food and beverages will be available.
Numerous vendors will present their pet and human products from healthy dog treats to ladies' jewelry and information on dog, cat and horse rescue.
A silent auction and raffle will offer a variety of gift baskets, dinners, services and entertainment packages.
New this year is the "DAWG Pound," in which well-known residents will be incarcerated in dog kennels until they raise enough donations to meet their impound fees.
Well-mannered pets on leash are welcome to attend too.
The Douglas County Fairgrounds is located on Dump Road. For more information, visit the DAWG Web site at www.dawgrescue.com or call (775) 790-0030.
