Storey County meeting on Cordevista rescheduled

The Storey County Planning Commission meeting set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Virginia City Highlands Fire Station has been rescheduled.

A large crowd was expected for the meeting, where a master plan amendment and zone change for the proposed Cordevista development in central Storey County was to be discussed.

The county building department's staff didn't get the meeting agenda posted three days in advance of the meeting, as required by Nevada's Open Meeting Law, said building Director Dean Haymore.

By law, the agenda must be posted three days in advance of the meeting at the county courthouse, the post office and two fire stations.

"That's my department's oversight," Haymore said. "We have a standard scheduling for it to go out.

Haymore said the meeting agenda was property posted on the Internet and 1,800 letters were sent to residents of the Virginia City Highlands, but the legal requirement of posting the notice was not met.

Haymore said the planning department usually posts notices a week in advance, but he was on vacation last week.

"I'm not going to make any excuses, it's my fault and my department's fault," he said.

The meeting has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. April 13 in the Virginia City Highlands Fire Station's community room.
