Despite a slowing construction market, stores such as Tetrus Building Materials are still profiting off the home-owner renovation market.

The Reno company opened its first Carson City sales store and warehouse in February. The store is celebrating its grand opening and Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting on at April 11. Drinks and appetizers will be served.

"We're educating customers on the benefit of pavers," said C.W. Wiggins, Carson City store general manager. "Concrete cracks eventually and you have to redo the whole thing, but with pavers, when one cracks, you just replace the one. And they are more decorative."

This is the company's first expansion outside of its Reno store. It is owned by Pat Conners, of Reno.

"The Reno store has been good for the Reno, Sparks and Fernley area, but we need to offer our contractors in this area a faster way for us to get products to them," Wiggins said.

Tetrus keeps up to 40,000 square feet of pavers and retaining walls on site, including manufactured and natural stone and landscape lighting. Wiggins said he expects to increase that to 150,000 square feet.

Five employees work at the 40,000-square-foot store at 2443 S. Curry St., the previous location of Western Nevada Supply. Tahoe Lighting, a Tetrus company, is also based at the new site.

Tetrus is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday with Saturday hours to be added after April 11. For information call 841-9676 or visit www.tetrusmaterials.com.
