Each person who joins the National Arbor Day Foundation during April will receive 10 free shade trees. Arbor Day will be April 27 of this year.
The 10 shade trees are red oak, sugar maple, weeping willow, green ash, thornless honeylocust, pin oak, river birch, tuliptree, silver maple and red maple. The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting in April or May with enclosed planting instructions. The trees are guaranteed to grow or they will be replaced free of charge. Free seed starting seminar today
There will be a free seminar on starting cool season crops from seed, including vegetables like lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, onions and more, 10 a.m. today at Greenhouse Garden Center, 2450 S. Curry St. Reservations are not required.

May Arboretum to host sprinkler programs
There will be two free workshops at the Wilbur D. May Arboretum at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park about sprinkler systems. "Spring Sprinklers: Tune Up and Turn On" will be from 9-10:30 a.m. today. "Designing Efficient Sprinkler Systems" will be from 9-11 a.m. April 14. Call 785-4153.
WAC association to visit Veterans hospital
The Women's Army Corps Veterans Association will meet from 10-11 a.m. today at the Veterans Hospital Transitional Care Living Unit Cafeteria, 1000 Locust, in Reno.

Sign up for babysitting CPR and training classes at WNCC Fallon campus
There will be two babysitting courses available in April at Western Nevada Community College's Fallon campus.
Baby-Sitting CPR will meet from 9:30-11:30 a.m. April 14.
A registered nurse will cover adult, child and infant CPR. Students will receive a Heartsaver card, book and DVD, as well as a WNCC certificate of completion.
A maximum of nine students will be accepted. Cost is $55.
Babysitting training will meet from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. April 28. An authorized Red Cross provider will cover rescue breathing, first aid and more.
Students will receive a 160-page color manual, a certificate of completion and the American Red Cross certification card. Students should bring a bag lunch, as the class will watch a video through the lunch hour. Cost is $67.50.
