The Douglas High softball team finished off a hard-earned three-game sweep of Wooster on Saturday, winning both ends of a doubleheader. The Tigers won the opener 1-0 and the nightcap 6-5. Lauren Hoppe had a huge day for Douglas, belting three home runs.
In the opener, Stephanie Harper pitched a complete game five-hit shutout, striking out 10, walking none and hitting one batter. Lauren Hoppe's home run, to centerfield provided the game's only run. Donna Judd, Marina Diaz and Mackenzie Cauley all added a hit for Douglas.
The Tigers overcame a 4-0 deficit to win the nightcap. Hoppe's three-run home run in the fifth tied the score 5-5. In the bottom of the seventh, Emily Weaver walked and Hoppe doubled after a fielder's choice. Tisha Luken hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the winning run.
Harper again was the winning pitcher. Douglas (13-7, 6-3) closed to within 4-2 in the third on Hoppe's two-run homer after Judd singled. Hoppe went 3-for-4 with five RBI, Judd was 3-for-4 and Harper, Weaver and Nicole LaPorte all added a hit.
