People interested in the state's backcountry trails can now watch a show on the community access cable television channel to learn more.

Called "Nevada Trails," it's the first show to be produced in Access Carson City's new studio in the basement of the Brewery Arts Center.

Hosts Brian Doyal and Jake Munoz will promote different types of outdoor recreation, and how to enjoy these activities safely.

"I was nervous for the first couple of minutes," Doyal said of his experience recording the first episode. "Then it went great."

Both men are involved in the Pine Nut Mountain Trail Association. The group promotes proper trail use for hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians, motorcyclists, and drivers of all-terrain vehicles and 4-by-4s. Doyal is the director of the group.

The show will offer product reviews, local club and event information, trail etiquette and safety tips, and interviews with people who have an effect on outdoor recreation in Nevada.

Also sought are videos of residents enjoying the local backcountry, Doyal said.

They won't air video of dangerous stunts, he emphasized.

"One guy wants to be a 'doofus' doing things wrong," he said. "He'll wear a mullet wig and a trucker hat. We'll see how that goes. ..."

Send DVDs or DV-tapes of 30 seconds, 1 minute or 2 minutes long. Mail or drop off material for this show at Michael's Cycle Works, Attention: Nevada Trails, 2680 S. Carson St., Carson City NV 89701.

The location where the footage was shot shouldn't be mentioned. It's unsafe to go exploring these trails alone. They encourage people to join local recreation groups that go out to the trails and allow people to enjoy them together.

The Nevada Powersports Dealers Association is sponsoring the trails show. It's scheduled to air on Access Carson City-Cable Channel 10 at 8 a.m. Tuesdays and 7 p.m. Saturdays, and on Channel 26 on 5 p.m. Thursdays. It will be webcast at 5 p.m. Thursdays at www.acctv.org.

Another ACC studio production will be a Spanish-language program "Quienes Somos." Its English-language version will be called "Who Are We."

Both versions will be hosted by Ramiro "Javier" Ramirez, Carson City's citizen outreach-community development block grant coordinator. It should begin airing by May.

Ramirez will talk to local Latinos about such things as their experiences and culture. The show will allow the entire community - no matter whether they speak Spanish or English - to learn more about local people with roots in Latin America, he said.
