Artists turn castaways into art at Recycled Art(icles) show

Once again, the students of Western Nevada Community College have gone in search of treasures where others may only find trash.

Local artists used their talent, imagination and junk to create paintings, sculptures, as well as items both useful and indescribable for the college's Recycled Art(icles) show.

The object of the contest is to illustrate the phrase, "One person's trash is another person's treasure." Entries must be composed of recycled materials, and the materials must consist of things that have been previously used for something else. The contest is open to students, college staff and the community.

Entries will be displayed through Thursday in the Bristlecone Building's Main and College galleries.

An artists' reception will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday during which several artists will speak about their work and awards will be given out. Cash prizes will be awarded for Best of Show ($100), Most Creative ($75), and Most Useful ($75).

The 12th annual event is sponsored by the WNCC United Students Association, the WNCC Art department, and the Recycled Art fan club volunteers.
