I was talking to Jane Gill the other day at the legislative office and she made a great point. She doesn't help Advocates to End Domestic Violence just during fundraisers, she helps all year long.

Why? Because domestic violence happens all year long.

If you know someone who needs help, call. If you want to help Advocates at Classy Seconds Thrift shop, volunteer with their fundraiser Taste of Downtown.

The Carson High School Band Boosters are having a wine-tasting fundraiser and a great silent auction on Saturday.

It's unfortunate that band and music programs are those amazing extra-curricular items that always seem to be on the funding chopping block. But thanks to the support from the Carson City School District, the band boosters and the community, we continue to give our children the opportunity to participate in music throughout elementary school all the way to the CHS Blue Thunder Marching Band.

To continue, they need you to come join this fundraiser. Not only will it have great wine tasting and a silent auction, but you can count on some great entertainment as well.

WHERE: Carson Airport

Thanks to all of you who have helped by providing prom dresses, nail appointments, dinners and even make-up kits.

If you want to help a young man or woman attend the Carson High Prom, please give counselor Cindy Watty a call and ask what else is needed.

I can't thank the ladies at Soroptimist International of Carson City enough for being the best fairy godmothers; Joan Andreas provided a gift certificate for dinner; Loretta Roche a tuxedo; Jann Fagnoli, make-up kits; Valerie Wyman from Whole Child is providing another dinner and nail appointments for the girls; and Jean Bondiett for making sure couples get to attend. Thanks also to the amazing state office that called and asked what they could do to help.

A special thank you to Cindy Watty and Kim Santos for making sure each year that two couples are selected and truly deserve that special moment. Very cool - you've got to love ladies who know putting on a glass slipper really does matter.

Carson High School Prom Night

WHEN: April 28

WHERE: Silver Oaks Golf Course

WHAT'S NEEDED: Special essentials needed for couples to attend. You can drop off any dresses. And a good friend, Maria Hickey, reminded me when she donated a beautiful shawl and beaded purses that those items are also needed.

CONTACT: Cindy Watty at 283-1600
