Woman in Fall Street cop shooting gets prison

The Carson City woman at the center of a Fall Street search warrant that ended in a deputy being shot was sentenced to prison on Monday for possessing methamphetamine.

Lillian Kaye Meyer, 43, was given a sentence of one to three years in prison by District Court Judge Todd Russell.

Meyer was arrested Feb. 1 after deputies executed a warrant at her home, 1515 Fall St. The warrant alleged that Meyer had sold 2.5 grams of methamphetamine to a police informant on Jan. 28 and 29.

After officers entered the home, Deputy Josh Stagliano was checking a rear bedroom when homeowner Mark Fiddler, 50, allegedly opened fire with a .22-caliber rifle, striking Stagliano in the hand.

Fiddler will stand trial May 7 on charges of attempted murder and battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm. Stagliano is recovering and on light duty with the department.

"While she may not be directly responsible for the shooting, Lillian Meyer is the reason police were at that scene and she created the circumstances that led to the shooting," said Assistant District Attorney Gerald Gardner, in asking the judge for prison time.

Gardner also noted Meyer had two prior drug-related felony convictions - possession of drug paraphernalia in 1990 and possession of a dangerous drug in 1994. Both convictions occurred in Phoenix.

"This case graphically illustrates the scale of the methamphetamine epidemic in Carson City. Methamphetamine has brought an increase in violent crimes and property crimes to our community," said District Attorney Neil Rombardo. "The Sheriff's Office is going to continue arresting drug dealers and we are going to prosecute them and put them in prison."
