Virginia City hires Pressley as coach

Virginia City High has announce that Ron Pressley will be the school's first head football coach in the modern era. Pressley will be starting up a program that has not existed in more than 50 years.

Pressley comes to Virginia City by way of Manogue, where he spent the past six seasons on the staffs of Joe Sellers and Paul Mills. He served as a junior varsity Assistant and then as head freshman coach. Pressley also has 20 years of experience as an assistant and head coach for Reno Pop Warner.

"We believe that Virginia City found a perfect fit for our program," principal Patrick Beckwith said. "Ron has two decades of experience and a tremendous track record of success at Bishop Manogue. His passion for football and for kids was quite evident during the interview process."

Joining Pressley's staff will be Don Dame and Ed Reed. Dame, with 15 years coaching experience, will serve as defensive coordinator and coach linebackers and defensive backs.

Reed, who has coached football for 23 years, will be responsible for quarterbacks, running backs, and receivers. Pressley will also serve as offensive coordinator and coach both the defensive and offensive lines. There is still a possibility that an additional coach will be added to the staff.

"We (coaches) are very excited to be part of bringing football back to Virginia City," Pressley said. "We hope to start a new tradition in football that will continue through the years."

The Muckers will play home games on a new synthetic turf field on the Virginia City campus. Construction on the field began in early April and is scheduled to be completed by August 15.

Virginia City opens the 2007 season on Friday, August 24 at Carlin. The Muckers are expected to compete in the Western 1A and to be eligible for the 1A playoffs in 2007.
