Rasner pitches well in Yankees victory

Darrell Rasner gave the New York Yankees his second straight solid outing and Alex Rodriguez hit another dramatic walk-off home run for the win.

Rasner, a 1999 Carson High graduate, started for the Yankees on Thursday in the 8-6 win over the Cleveland Indians at Yankee Stadium. Rasner allowed one run - a Grady Sizemore home run - on four hits while striking out three and walking one through 4.1 innings. Rasner had thrown 81 pitches when he was taken out of the game.

Rasner has now allowed six earned runs through 14 innings on the season for a 3.86 earned run average.

Rodriguez capped a six-run rally in the ninth inning when he hit a game-winning three-run home run.

CHSJVbaseball holds on for win

The Carson High junior varsity baseball team held on for a 14-13 win over Douglas on Thursday at CHS.

Carson (16-7, 9-4 in the Sierra League) scored seven runs in the sixth inning to break a 7-7 tie and take a 14-7 lead. But with two outs and nobody on in the seventh, Douglas rallied for six runs before falling short.

Tom Preston was 3-for-5 with an RBI, Cody Barr was 2-for-3 with two RBI, Tom Purcell, Dustin Buttner and Brooks Hutchins all had a hit and two RBI, Tyler Hutchins and Jeff Butler each had a hit and an RBI and Mason Bondi added a hit for Carson.

David Perce struck out six over 4.2 innings and winning pitcher Cody Barr struck out four over 2.1 innings for Carson.
