College holds annual student art show
The annual Student Art Exhibition, a collection of art by Western Nevada Community College students, is on display at the Carson City campus Main and College galleries through May 11. The community is invited to view the exhibit and cast a vote for their favorite at the WNCC Bristlecone Building information desk.
Categories include ceramics, contemporary oil and acrylic painting, darkroom photography, digital imaging, digital photography, drawing: black and white media, drawing: color media, graphic communications, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture, traditional oil and acrylic painting, visual foundations and watercolor.
There is also a Ceramics Silent Auction through 2 p.m. May 8. Auction items, identified by a large red sticker, are on tables in the center of the College Gallery and atrium. All proceeds will benefit the WNCC Art Program. Call 445-3000.
Carson Democrats to meet

Civic Opera holds auditions at Brewery today, Thursday
The Nevada Civic Light Opera Company will, hold auditions for "The Music Man" from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Brewery Arts Performance Hall, 511 W. King St. Auditions will be held from 7-9 p.m. today in the Nevada Room, Tahoe Biltmore, Crystal Bay.

Ballet Hispanico to dance at UNR Spring Concert
Dance troupe Ballet Hispanico brings its talent and devotion to Latin culture to the University of Nevada, Reno's Spring Dance Concert, Thursday and Friday in Nightingale Concert Hall.
Sharing the program with UNR dance students, faculty and guest artists, Ballet Hispanico will perform fresh works.
Works featured in the Spring Dance Concert include "Palladium Suite," choreographed by Willie Rosario with music by the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra led by Arturo O'Farrill; and "ÁViva Las Americas!" - a high-energy theatrical production.
Spring Dance Concert performances will be 8 p.m. Thursday-Friday in the concert hall. Tickets are adult $20; students $1; children 12 and under $10.
