Howard Everett McDonald Sr., 82, a 13-year resident of Carson City died Aug. 5, 2007.

Mr. McDonald was born Aug. 23, 1924, to Ira and Dorothy McDonald in Oakland, Calif. He graduated from high school in Oakland. He joined the U.S. Army after high school. He earned four Silver Stars and two Purple Hearts during his service in World War II. He married Louise Dill on Jan. 6, 1946, in Jefferson City, Mo. Mr. McDonald retired in 1988 from Southern Pacific Railroad where he worked as a telegrapher for 30 years. He enjoyed flying planes, fishing, hunting, golfing and history.

He was preceded in death by his son William Wyatt McDonald.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years; son, Howard E. McDonald Jr. of California and grandson, Howard E. McDonald III.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Irvington Memorial Cemetery in Fremont, Calif.
