An accident on Highway 50 in Stagecoach backed up eastbound traffic on Monday morning.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Nick Nordyke said Andrew Manzini, 45, was eastbound near the Stagecoach Market in a Ford Taurus when he slowed for a dog in the road and was struck in the rear by a Toyota Corolla driven by Desiree Sweet, 28.
"She applied the brakes and went into a locked-wheel skid for approximately 90 feet," Nordyke said.
Sweet and her two children, a 2-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son, were wearing their seatbelts, but the boy received minor injuries to his knees and abrasions to his face from the airbag. The child was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Manzini's passenger, 83-year-old Ida Manzini, complained of back pain, but was not transported, Nordyke said.
Sweet was cited for failing to use due care.
