East Fifth Street closed today through Monday
East Fifth Street and Butti Way will be closed from 7 p.m. today through 7 a.m. Monday for road work. Fifth Street will be closed between Fairview Drive and the Nevada State Prison. Butti Way will be closed between Fifth Street and Airport Road.
Traffic wishing to travel Fifth Street between Saliman Road and Fairview Drive can reach Fairview Drive where it intersects Saliman Road. Butti Way traffic can exit by traveling east on Butti Way to Fairview Drive. Access for local businesses will be available. The work will make way for installation of a new water line.
Jazz Festival begins tonight at BAC
The 2007 Jazz and Beyond festival, presented by the Brewery Arts Center and Mile High Jazz Band, will kick-off tonight in Carson City with the 15th annual Beer Tasting Event from 6-9 p.m. The tasting, sponsored by the law firm of Allison, MacKenzie, Pavlakis, Wright & Fagan, LTD, will feature more than 15 microbrews, including locally-brewed Ruby Mountain Wheat and Great Basin Icky, as well as Fat Tire Amber Ale and Montana-brewed, Moose Drool. Beers will be served on tap and chilled.
Brunch will be served from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, and is $10 per person, and $8.55 for seniors and children ages 4-12. Children 3 and under eat free. This event is sponsored by the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center and Casino Fandango.
Jazz & Beyond runs tonight through Sunday and admission is free to the music festival. Bands include the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Sol'Jib, Yellowjackets, Maria Muldaur and the Reno Jazz Orchestra. Festival attendees also will enjoy a wide variety of food, drinks, art vendors, dancing, activities and more.
Wine more to your taste? This event is 4-7 p.m. Sunday, with a wide array of samples and free hors d'oeuvres.
Tickets for all three of these special events are available at Ben's Liquors, D'Vine Wine and Bistro, and the Brewery Arts Center, including online at www.breweryarts.org. Beer Tasting tickets are $20 each and Wine Tasting tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.

Tickets on sale now for Genoa Candy Dance
Tickets for the Sept. 29 Genoa Candy Dance dinner dance can be purchased now in Genoa at Antiques Plus, Genoa Courthouse Museum, Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, Gardnerville Cowboys and Angels Salon and Spa, Dancing Deer, Genoa Trading Company, Tahoe Ridge Winery, Town of Genoa Office, Wild Rose Inn and Sierra Nevada Trading Company, Minden; Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center, Gardnerville. Tickets are also available by mail. The dinner dance will be 6-10 p.m., at the Orchard House in Genoa. The ticket price is $20 for adults; $12 for children age 12 and under, 500 tickets are available. Sales will end Sept. 21. All tickets will be sold in advance. No tickets will be available at the door.

Wild Horse and Burro Expo this weekend
The Western States Wild Horse and Burro Expo will be 8 a.m.-5 p.m. today through Sunday at the Reno Livestock Events Center. The cost to attend the event is $5 per day children under 5 are free. The event includes adoptions and a show featuring wild horses and burros who have been trained. There will be clinics to educate the public on training to caring for wild horses and burros.

Toccata continues festival concerts
Toccata, The Orchestra and Community Choral Artists of the Tahoe Area, continues its summer MusicFest with "Four hands and 14 Singers" 7:30 p.m. today at the Valhalla Boathouse in South Lake Tahoe.
