Roop Street between Winnie Lane and Northridge Drive is open without controls and will remain that way for the near future.

Workers on Thursday peeled off enough asphalt to remove joints that had been running lengthwise and causing vehicles rolling through to sway from side to side. It's still a lumpy trip over Roop in that area, however, according to Public Works.

The job to reseal the street and make it smooth is expected to resume sometime next week. Traffic in the location again will either be controlled or diverted when the contract workers return with the right equipment.

The street had been resealed a couple of weeks ago by contractors but the result was so rough that the city refused to accept it, so it's being corrected.

A cold resealing method called microsurfacing was done on the street but the result was rough and uneven. Workers will try microsurfacing again but with different equipment.

The primary contractor for this and all of the other resealing work on city streets this year is Sparks-based Sierra Nevada Construction.

The citywide street resealing contract is for $780,000.
