The 12th annual Tahoe Trails and Tails to benefit the Yerington Animal Protection Society's spay/neuter project will be held on Sunday at Spooner Lake State Park.
There will be a 10K run, a 5K run and a two-mile walk. Late registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the races beginning at 9:30 a.m. The 10K run follows a challenging out-and-back route on the Marlette Lake trail.
The Carson City Sheriff's Search and Rescue will be on hand to help and will share in the proceeds.

Dayton
Lyon County Babe Ruth baseball fall sign-ups
Lyon County boys and girls between the ages 12-15 can sign up for fall baseball by calling Korey Farnworth at 450-9124.
The cost is $40 per player. Players get to keep their jersey and hat.
Practice starts first week of September. Games run through the end of October. The Dayton team will be playing teams from Carson City, Reno, South Lake Tahoe, and Gardnerville.
Back to school supply drive
The Dayton Martial Arts Program is conducting a back to school supply drive through today. The program is collecting backpacks, pencils, paper and other school supplies. The donations will be distributed to the local schools shortly after school starts.
Donations can be dropped off at the Dayton Community Center, 170 Pike St. in Old Town Dayton during normal business hours or when the karate class meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Dance with lessons twice a month
A dance for ages 16 and older, featuring local performers Don and Nadine, will be the first and third Fridays of each month at the Dayton Community Center, 170 Pike St.
Dance lessons will be 8-8:30 p.m. and the dance will go until 10 p.m. Fox-trot, waltz, swing, Latin, country line dance and polka steps will be taught.
Cost is $5 per person, with potluck desserts for the first Friday. The third Friday is a cost of $10 per person with bottled water and snacks provided. Call Denise at 246-6227.
Water-wise gardening taught at park
A course on water-wise gardening will be taught from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Dayton State Park.
Local gardeners Wendy Madson and Mickey Clause will recommend plants that will grow well and look great in your garden, especially those that don't need much water and attract birds and butterflies.
Donation drive for library set
A donation drive for the Listening Library at the Dayton Valley Branch Library will be from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 8.
The emphasis is mainly on all forms of classical music and music theater.
Donations can be monetary or in the form of compac discs or DVDs that feature classical (instrumental and vocal), opera, ballet, jazz, big band, musical theater and Native American music.
An estate CD collection of 90 works has already been donated but many more are needed to satisfy the diverse tastes of Dayton residents.
The Cultural and Performing Arts Committee for the Dayton area in cooperation with the Lyon County Library System has initiated a pilot program to create a classical music collection of CDs and DVDs at the Dayton Valley Branch Library.

Plans on for 19th Dayton Valley Days
The 19th annual Dayton Valley Days celebration in historic downtown Dayton Sept. 15-16 will feature even more fun family fun this year.
The theme this year is "Travel Back to Old Dayton" recognizing The Dayton Station, Dayton's rail depot, along with various forms of transportation from the past used in Dayton. The Grand Marshalls will be the Minor Family and Grace Ricci.
Events include the annual parade, concerts and food, the Gold Creek Show and Shine car show and train rides.
Crafters, antique dealers, food vendors and a large variety of other booths will line historic Pike Street.
All proceeds will benefit Lyon County Sheriff's Search and Rescue and the preservation of historic downtown Dayton.

Gold Hill
'Much Ado About Nothing' at gazebo
Shakespeare on the Rocks makes a return to Gold Hill as the Gold Hill Theater Troupe and the Nevada Shakespeare Company present "Much Ado About Nothing."
The play will be performed in the Gold Hill Gazebo Theater, across Highway 342 from the historic hotel. The play stars actors from Gold Hill, Virginia City, Carson City and Dayton.

Virginia City
Firefighters to hold golf tournament
The Storey County Volunteer Fire Department and the Fire Fighters Association are holding a "Tee It Up 4 Kids" golf tournament at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Empire Ranch Golf Course in Carson City.
This tournament was started in 2001 to raise funds for the Storey County Volunteer Fire Department's annual Children's Christmas Party in Virginia City. New toys are distributed to children up to fifth grade in Storey County.
In 2005, the VFD teamed up with Storey County Firefighters Association to raise funds for the community assistance program.

Spaghetti feed benefits fire department
A spaghetti feed will be held at Saturday at the Storey County Volunteer Fire Station, Cartwright and Lousetown roads in the Virginia City Highlands.
The no-host bar opens at 5 p.m. and dinner is at 6 p.m. Spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert will be served.
The event will also include a bounce house for the kids, numerous raffles and live music.
Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for kids under 12.
Comstock plans pet parade Saturday
The 2nd annual Virginia City Pet Parade will be Saturday in Virginia City. Registration begins at 10 a.m. at the Visitors Center, 86 S. C St. The line-up will be at 11:30 a.m. and the parade starts noon. The entry fee is by donation.
Categories include: Most Unusual Pet, Cutest Child Pet Combo, Cutest Adult Pet Combo, Most Creative Costume, Most Humorous Pet, Best Performance, Best Dressed Pet, Pet Owner Look-a-Like, Yappiest Pet.

Civil War re-enactment on Labor Day weekend
The Comstock Civil War Re-Enactors will put on their annual Labor Day weekend encampment and battles Sept. 1-3 in Virginia City.
Battles with cannon and troops will take place at 1:20 p.m. and 3 p.m. on the train.
A Civil War-era ball will be 7 p.m. Sept. 1 in the Delta Saloon parking lot. The cost is $3.
A luncheon and formal tea party will be at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 2, upstairs at the Delta Saloon.
The Civil War Moonlight wine train leaves the V&T railroad station at 7 p.m.
On Sept. 3, the annual Virginia City Labor Day Parade will be at noon down C Street and will feature many of the re-enactors as well as other familiar Virginia City characters and local groups.
Following the parade, at about 12:30-1 p.m. in the middle of "C" Street will be the "Battle for Virginia City."
