Andrew J. Soukup, 90, a Yerington resident died Aug. 17, 2007.
Mr. Soukup was born March 16, 1917, to Andrew and Amelia Soukup in Wausau, Wis.
He joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in India during World War II. He obtained the rank of staff sergeant. He worked as a cook, miner and cowboy after his discharge from the Army. He worked for the Anaconda mine in Yerington, retiring in 1979 when the mine closed.
In his later years, he grew alfalfa, worked his orchard, raised horses, cows, pigs and various birds.
He married Viola Louis, who preceded him in death in 1971.
Among his survivors are his sons and daughters-in-law Jack and Susan, Clay and Jaydene, Kirk and Deanne, Pat and Nancy; sons Jerry and Lee; daughters Dawn, Kathleen and Laurel; daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Eric; 28 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no memorial services.
