A celebration of life for Richard James Lansley, 82, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Autumn Funerals & Cremations.

Mr. Lansley died Aug. 17, 2007, at his home in the Virginia City Highlands. He was born Jan. 20, 1925, to James D. and Eunice Schutte Rogers in Sacramento.

Before moving to the Virginia City Highlands in 2000 he lived in Del Mar, Calif., and Vancouver, Wash. He attended elementary school in Southgate, Calif., and graduated from Sweetwater High School in the Bonita area.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Panama as a photographer for the military police.

He married Bette Christina Oberbillig in 1946 at Fort Lewis, Wash.

He worked for Gulf General Atomics as a scientific engineer until his retirement in 1983. He enjoyed traveling, building models of aircraft, ships and N-scale trains, woodworking and photography.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1993.

Among his survivors are his brother Robert Lansley; children Jan Renfrow of St. Maries, Idaho, Terry Lansley of Zionsville, Ind., and Rick Lansley of Virginia City.

Memorial contributions in Mr. Lansley's memory may be made to St. Mary's Hospice, Paralyzed Veterans of America, The American Red Cross, AMVETS or the U.S.O.
