Calendar Girls to sign copies Saturday

There will be a calendar signing evening to introduce the "Carson Calendar Girls" at the Bliss Mansion, 608 Elizabeth St. 6 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $30, which includes an advance copy of the calendar, wine, appetizers and a chance to have the photos autographed by the Carson Calendar Girls.

The first fundraising event for the Danielle Conway Foundation is the creation of a 2008 calendar.

WNC offers class in physical theater

Linda Posner, an actress, singer, and dancer who has been nominated for two Tony Awards, will present a master class in physical theatre 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, at Western Nevada College's Sarah Winnemucca Hall. It is open to anyone interested in musical theatre. The cost is $30.

The noncredit workshop will focus on expressing emotions with movement, sound and dialogue; improvisation; memorization ideas; audition tips; and scene creation. Students will actively participate in several instruction segments that will help dancers explore acting and actors explore movement. Call 445-4249.

Coin show begins Saturday at museum

The Nevada State Museum will host the 2007 Carson City Mint Coin Show from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday and from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday. Of the 30 dealers participating in this year's show, nearly all have donated one or more prizes for the raffle. The Grand Prize is a framed photograph of the Historic Carson City Mint with an 1875 CC Trade Dollar in a custom Nevada-shaped holder, and an 1883 CC uncirculated Morgan Silver Dollar in GSA holder. The total value of the prize with framing is more than $1,450.

Admission to the coin show is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, and free for members and persons under 18; fee includes the coin show and all museum exhibits. Contact Deborah Stevenson at 687-4810 ext. 237.

Triple Threat theater workshop features 'Cats,' 'Hairspray'

Wild Horse Children's Theater presents the "Triple Threat" a workshop of techniques geared to students ages 7 and up who have their sights set on the Broadway stage.

There will be two workshops Saturday. The first, from 10 a.m.-noon, is for students with beginning level experience who will learn dance and vocal numbers from the Broadway musical "Cats."

The second workshop, 1-3 p.m., is for intermediate students who have some previous dance training. Students here will learn the original Broadway choreography and songs from "Hairspray." All students will leave with a CD of their performance songs. The cost of the workshop is $30.

Teen driving program offered Saturday

The Tire Rack Street Survival teen driving program will teach teens the skills they need to stay alive behind the wheel. Class will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe, 22222 Mt. Rose Highway

Unlike traditional novice driver education programs based on classroom theory and simple maneuvers, the Tire Rack Street Survival program improves driver competence through hands-on experiences in real-world driving situations. The Sierra Chapter BMW Car Club of America is hosting this school.

The Tire Rack Street Survival program is open to permitted and licensed drivers ages 16-21. The cost is $60 per student and some insurance companies offer premium discounts to graduates. Registration forms can be found online at www.streetsurvival.org.
