Capital Christian Center school at 1600 Snyder Avenue began classes last week and the young children are still wide-eyed with excitement.
There are new lunch boxes, new friends and new teachers.
As the children from the school's two kindergarten classes - Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Oster - filed into the gymnasium/lunchroom Monday, each took their spot at a table and sat down to eat their meal.
Peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches were popular, as were bottles of water and healthful snacks like carrots. The children were well-behaved and visited with each other while eating.
Five-year-old Will Swenson, a student of Mrs. Oster, had Lunchables.
"I also have applesauce," Will said.
Keith Squires is principal of Capital Christian Center; Dr. Stan Friend is the administrator.
"The campus is so quiet when school is not in session," said the Rev. Dave Goodale, associate pastor and head of buildings and grounds.
"But we now have about 400 people a day on campus. It's really exciting and it's nice to have the sounds of the children back in the halls in the classrooms."
Goodale said there are about 265 children enrolled in daycare through eighth grade at the school. Kindergarten is an all-day program, from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
