Carson boys tennis rolls to victory

The Carson High boys tennis team rolled to a 14-4 win over Fallon on Tuesday in its season open at the CHS courts.

"We played everybody as much as we could," Carson coach Pat Houlihan said. "I'm still trying to find and search for consistent play."

Carson's top singles players rolled in their only matches as Spencer Brinson won 6-0 and Ben Henningsen won 6-0. All three of Carson's doubles teams also didn't drop a game in their only matches as Brad Cobler and Jordan Rogers won 6-0, Spencer Trapp and James Pelz won 6-0 and Alex and Tyler Wing won 6-0.

Alson in singles, Tom Hollenbeck-Pringle won 6-3, Kris Cononigo won 6-3, Ricky Nyguen won 6-4 and Coulter Thomas won 6-4. In doubles, Jordan Miller and Ian Gentner won 6-1, Tom Dudley and Jon Kane won 6-0, Collin Grischott and Luke Gentner won 6-2, Adam Whitt and Jared Wells won 6-3, Spencer Gibb and Tyler Smith won 6-2 and J.J. Aragon and Will Morrison won 6-3.

In other matches, Gordon Lee took two close losses, losing 5-6, 5-7 and Matt McDaniel lost a close match 4-6.

GIRLS

Carson sustained a heartbreaking loss at Fallon losing in the tiebreaking matches 4-2 after the two teams battled to a 9-9 tie in regulation.

Carson trailed 7-5 going into the third round, but won four of six matches to force the 9-9 tie. Jenna Greenburg and Joanna Xie came through with a clutch 7-6 win in doubles to help force the 9-9 tie. Hannah Shaw won 7-5 and Elise Hansen won 6-2 in singles and Hannah Dudley and Alyssa Corda won 6-3 in doubles in the final round for Carson.

Shaw also won 6-0 in singles while Dudley and Corda swept as they won their other matches 7-5, 6-3. Also in doubles, Greenburg and Xie won 6-4 and Carrie Linn and Sara Shores won 6-3 for Carson.

Carson sustained several close losses in regulation and in the tiebreakers. Tiffany Moore lost 7-6 in singles in the first round. In the tiebreakers, Shaw lost 7-5 and Moore lost 9-7 while Greenbrug and Xie lost 7-5. Dudley and Corda won 7-3 and Linn and Shores won 7-5 in the tiebreakers.
