Seven-year-old boy wins two auctions

The Ormsby Sportsmen's Association (OSA) of Carson City has elected Don Quilici as its 2008 president, and Paul Beck, Dick Clyde and Bob "Slick" McCulloch as its 2008-2010 Directors.

The announcement of those elections was made at the club's annual banquet held last Saturday night.

That annual banquet was attended by an all-time record crowd of almost 200 people.

Among the many winners that evening were:

2007 Fishing Contest:

Rich Bachle of Fernley: Lahontan Cutthroat Trout (24 inches).

Rich Bachle: White Bass (1-pound 4-ounces) (11 inches)

Norm Budden: Rainbow Trout (2-pounds, 6-ounces).

Dennis Hudson: Mackinaw Trout (10-pounds, 8-ounces) (33 inches).

Bob McCulloch: Black Crappie: (2-pounds, 3-ounces).

The "You Screwed Up" Award (for the person who screwed up the worse during the year) was won by McCulloch for forgetting a bagful of dirty clothes in his Elko motel room. Once home, he telephoned the motel to ask them to mail the dirty clothes back to him. They did and at their own expense!

The "Sure Shot Award" (for the person who shot the most shots during a hunting season) was won by Kevin Law with a total of 14 shots fired during the recent big game hunting seasons.

The "Skins Drawing" (An accumulated total of $240 in cash) was won by Steve Brockway.

The evening's auction was highlighted by little seven-year-old Pete Savini of Reno. With some careful coaching from his dad, Rod and his grandfather, Sal Quilici, Pete was the high bidder on a custom-made, barn-wood clock with arrowheads for hour indicators, which was donated by Norm Budden, and a high-powered spotting scope, which was donated by the Carson Valley Chukar Club.

The evening's raffle was highlighted by the Hettrick family (Don, Nancy, Brent and Traci) winning many of the 57 prizes.

The next OSA function will be the first regular monthly meeting of the new year. That meeting will be Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Carson Nugget.

All OSA meetings, functions and activities are free of charge and open to all club members and to anyone else who is interested in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, etc.

The annual OSA membership dues are $5 for adults and $2 for youngsters under the age of 16.
