Carson area road construction

Work is under way on utility relocations along East Fifth Street between Saliman Road and Butti Way for the freeway. Overall work in this area will continue through the month. Be alert for traffic controls and flaggers.

Work continues on the cable barrier in the median between Carson City and Minden and in the median of the Carson City freeway. Speeds and lane restrictions are in effect.

The first significant winter storm of the season may reach Western Nevada and the Eastern Sierra later this week, according to the national Weather Service in Reno.

For today, expect cattered showers, mainly before 10 a.m. Skies will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. West winds will be between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

For tonight, expect mostly cloudy skies with a low about 34 and winds from the west between 5 and 10 mph.

A storm off the Pacific Coast could bring significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevada and some measurable snowfall to Western Nevada on Thursday and Friday.

Snowfall is dependent on where the storm lands along the coast. Snow is likely if the storm reaches the central coast, but chance of snow here diminishes is the systems stays to the west or drops farther south.
