Carson City


See's Candy on sale


Carson City Host Lions Club See's Candy Sales from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. through Dec. 20 Tuesdays through Sundays at Fuji Park (across from Costco), the Save-Mart grocery stores at Highway 50 East and College Parkway and at Raley's.


Funds from the candy sales support the purchase of eye glasses and exams for local underprivileged and the Carson City Host Lions Club's scholarship fund.




Symphony holiday concert features Chamber Singers


The Carson City Symphony presents the annual "Holiday Treat" concert, featuring the Carson Chamber Singers 4 p.m. today at the Carson City Community Center. Pre-concert entertainment by the Symphony Flute Ensemble will begin at 3 p.m. in the lobby.

Republican Women's club holding Christmas party


The Carson City Republican Women's Club will hold its annual Christmas Party and Installation of 2008 officers 5:30 p.m. Dec. 18, Carson City Nugget. Cost is $30 per person. For reservations call 884-3011 no later than Friday.




See historic homes today


See historic homes on the Victorian Home Christmas Tour, noon-5 p.m. today. This is a self-drive tour. Tickets are $20 for adults; $15 for seniors and students.

Town of Genoa hosts commemorative tree for military at gift shop


The Town of Genoa will be honoring past and present military personnel with a Commemorative Military Christmas Tree. Families having a loved one who has served in the military or is currently serving is invited to bring their homemade ornament with a photo of their service person to hang on this special Christmas Tree.


The tree will be located at the Dancing Deer Gift Shop. Families may hang their ornament at any time on the tree. Call 782-8696.


Motorcycle club meeting


The Silver Knights Motorcycle Club will meet 9 a.m. today at Sharkey's Casino, 1440 N. Highway 395, Gardnerville. The club is a nonprofit composed of peace officers, firefighters, military, search and rescue, security and medical personnel, but not limited to those fields. Members may be active or retired from their respective fields, male or female and Harley-Davidsons are not a requirement to become a member. Call 265-6998.




Holiday concert features 'Joyful Noise' Dec. 19


The sixth "Joyful Noise" Community Holiday Concert will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 19 at the C.V.I.C. Hall of Minden. The concert offers something for all ages and musical tastes, with holiday treats and hot cider to follow the show. Admission is a donation.

'Hallelujah' concert in Reno church this evening


The Sierra Lyric Opera Studio will present "Hallelujah," a concert of arias and ensembles from George Handel's "Messiah," 6 p.m. today at the South Reno Baptist Church, 6780 S. McCarran Blvd.

'Oliver!' takes to the stage today at Squaw Creek


"Oliver!" marks a first for the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival and its theatrical partner, the Nevada Shakespeare Company.


The Festival is producing its first off-season performance for the holidays. "Oliver!" plays today at the Resort at Squaw Creek in Squaw Valley USA and includes an 11 a.m. matinee and an 8 p.m. evening performance.
