Donations needed for senior program
RSVP will be making home visits to senior citizens on Saturday. They are asking local businesses and the community for assistance to ensure the success of this program. Donations of packaged food items, gift certificates and other merchandise for a senior citizen is needed.

Ron Paul supporters meeting tonight
The inaugural meeting of the Ron Paul Carson City Meet-up Group will take place 7 p.m. today in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Plaza Hotel, 8001 S. Carson St. There will be refreshments, buttons, yard signs and fliers. For information call 997-5061.
Jazz band, poets join for concert today
The Mile High Jazz Band will be joined by Krista Benjamin, Suzanne Roberts, Rita Geil, and other award-winning poets for an evening of jazz and poetry at Comma Coffee 8-10 p.m. today at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St. The poets take turns to read a poem before each song played by the big band.

History of the Sierra Valleys Railway to be presented
Historian Larry Meeker will present a program about the history of the Sierra Valleys Railway 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, 2180 S. Carson St. The presentation will explore how fires, wrecks and "pistol practice" including shooting at the local rabbit population from the train) were prevalent in the in the towns along the line.

Poinsettia class on Wednesday
A National Poinsettia Day celebration will be 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday at GEM Ventures, Inc, 4209 S. Carson St. (south end of building). Learn the history, varieties and care of the poinsettia. Hot cider and cookies will be served.

Democrats to hold Christmas party
Carson City Democrats Christmas Dinner will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Carson Colony Recreation Center, 2900 South Curry Street. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
Enjoy the culinary treats of Carson City Democrats and bring your specialty culinary dish to share. This dinner will be in lieu of the monthly meeting held on the first Wednesday of the month. Chairman, Steve Platt, will present the DNC's 50-state strategy to win the 2008 election.

First Christmas concert for new school Thursday
Riverview Elementary School will present its first Christmas Concert at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in its multipurpose room. Students from kindergarten through fifth grade will perform classic Christmas carols and familiar tunes like "Jingle Bell Rock," "Silver Bells," "Frosty the Snowman" and "Winter Wonderland."
Kindergarten through second grade will perform from 6:30 to 7 p.m., followed by a 20-minute intermission then the third through fifth grades will perform from 7:30 to 8 p.m.
