Andrew "Andy" Gotelli

Long Time Resident of Carson City Dies

Andrew (Andy) Gotelli died December 15, 2007 at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. Andy was a widower, his wife Ruth, Predeceasing him in 1998.

Andy was born to Giovanni John Gotelli and Teresa Ginochio Gotelli on December 11, 1909 in Reno, Nevada. During his early years he lived in Reno, Nevada and Roseville, California where he worked as a mechanic.

He married his wife, Ruth Ann Dallimore of 63 years on December 7, 1935 in Reno, Nevada where they lived until moving to Carson City in 1939. Upon moving to Carson City, Andy operated a gas station and automobile repair shop at North Carson and Ann Streets. Ruth and he also operated an appliance store Gotelli electric. In 1941, Andy became a Pontiac dealer: however, because of World War II, he did receive a new car to sell until 1947. Andy was a Pontiac, Chevrolet, International Truck and Willys jeep dealer in Carson City until 1966.

Andy was a candidate for Carson City mayor in 1961. He was narrowly defeated by less than 100 votes. He served as foreman on a number of Ormsby County grand juries, one of which made the initial recommendation to merge the Ormsby County and Carson City governments.

Andy and Ruth were co-founders and supporters of organized youth baseball programs, including Little League and Babe Ruth League. Andy was a lifetime member and past president of Ormsby Sportsman Association. He enjoyed the outdoors, including fishing and hunting.

Andy is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws, Harold and Lyn Gotelli residing in Carson City and Andrew and Patti Gotelli in Las Vegas, Nevada. He also is survived by six grandchildren (Larry Gotelli, Terry Gotelli, Donald Gotelli, Christine Mascola, Elizabeth Whitcomb, and Andrew Gotelli, II) nine great grandchildren, and two nieces.

Memorial Services will be held Thursday, December 20, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church on Division and Musser Streets in Carson City at 11:00 a.m. Private burial will take place at Mountain View Cemetery in Reno. Walton's Chapel of the Valley is handling the arrangements.
