All branches of the Lyon County Library are offering food in exchange for fine forgiveness for overdue books.
Through Dec. 28, patrons can bring in one item of nonperishable food for each overdue library item that is on the record or being returned late.
It does not apply to library materials that are lost or must be replaced. Collected food will be distributed by Lyon County Human Services during the holiday season. Call 463-6645 or e-mail mthieme@clan.lib.nv.us.

Red Rose to play New Year's Eve
Dance to Will and Sheree Rose's Red Rose Band at the Gold Hill Hotel's annual New Year's Eve Bash.
Dinner is served from 5-10 p.m., with Squeek LaVake at the piano.

Tyson to kick off lecture series

Church selling Christmas trees
Stagecoach Church of God, 8925 Highway 50, is selling living Christmas trees until they run out.
The trees are of various sizes and at affordable prices. The sales benefit the church's local youth and outreach programs.

The High Desert Horsemen will hold a Breakfast Ride/Drive at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 1 for members only.

Virginia City
Muckers present 'The Tempest'
The Virginia City High School Theater Muckers will perform William Shakespeare's "The Tempest' for its fall 2007 production.
"The Tempest" is believed to be the last play written solely by Shakespeare.
The play will be performed at 7 p.m. Jan. 12 and 2 p.m. Jan. 13 in the Virginia City High School commons.
The performance was postponed from Dec. 8-9 due to snow.

Pipers offers potluck January birthday party
A potluck birthday party will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 18 at Piper's Opera House to celebrate anyone who was born in January.

Christmas dinner served at YHS
The annual Yerington Community Christmas dinner will once again be held from noon-3 p.m. Tuesday at the Yerington High School multipurpose room.
The free dinner is open to anyone who would like to enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner with family and new friends.

Library offers course on money management
The Lyon County Library, Nevada Literacy Office and Nevada Rural Housing Authority are urging area residents to take advantage of a free course on money management that will be offered at the Yerington Library one evening a week for six weeks.
The "Money Matters" series will offer information on money management, basic banking, managing credit and credit reports, predatory lending, "payday loans," taxes and deductions and home buying.
