Looking ahead to 2008

Hello and Happy Holidays from Carson High School. The students and staff are taking a much deserved break after a busy and successful first semester, getting our batteries recharged for the second semester, which starts Jan. 7 with an "A" day.

As we enter 2008, life goes on as usual for everyone at CHS.

Senator Pride will be hosting our second annual Alumni Night Jan. 14. Carson High Alumni are invited to come watch the girls and boys varsity basketball games, starting at 5:30 p.m., and enjoy some special treatment while checking out some good basketball.

Twelve CHS video production students will be attending the Student Television Network National Convention in Anaheim, Calif., from Jan. 16-20.

This convention allows the students to partake in training sessions from video production professionals. They also compete in onsite competitions.

For the last two years, Carson High has finished in the top 10 at this convention. It is attended by more than 150 schools and 1,500 students from across the country.

Brian Reedy, the CHS video production teacher, also coordinates the editing for the training and contests using computers donated by Hewlett-Packard and software from Adobe. This is the fourth year in a row that Carson High School has attended this conference. We wish them well.

The CHS National Honor Society has been invited to New York City to be honored at an Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis fundraiser. This past month, NHS members from CHS have been raising awareness of ALS (or Lou Gehrig's disease) which is a progressive, degenerative disease of the nervous system.

With the help of students and staff at CHS, the members have raised over $1,500 in December to go toward research of this disease.

From Jan. 9-13 in New York, NHS students Jenna Duralde and Meghan Craig will join with adviser Angila Golik to represent CHS and will present a check at a major ALS fundraiser. If you'd like to make a contribution, contact Angila Golik at 283-1737.

CHS leadership students will start off the year busy as usual, organizing a Miracle Minute where we will spend a minute a day raising money for the family of a CHS sophomore who just lost his father to cancer.

Also, Winteriest Week is Jan. 29-Feb. 2, so mark you calendars.
