Odile Duclos Blackburn, 86, passed away December 11, 2007 at her home, surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Neuilly-Sur-Seine, France, she met her husband John Blackburn, of Spalding, England in 1945. Married the following year, she and John lived in England and Canada before immigrating to the U.S. in 1955. Formerly of Hillsborough, California, she moved to Lake Tahoe in 1976 and then to her last home in Carson City in 1983
She was preceded in death by her husband John, their daughter Adeline-Marie and grandson Jason Fry.
She is survived by her daughters Christina Fry of Reno, Maxine Cirac and son-in-law Paul of Virginia City, grandchildren Seth Fry (Wendy), Alix and Pierre Cirac and great-grandchildren Emily and Jonah Fry (children of Jason) and Addy and Eden Fry (children of Seth). She is also survived by her two sisters, Nicole and Micheline and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in France.
Thanks, especially, to her terrific friends and neighbors, Rex and Karen and Jack and Lillie!
Odile will be remembered for her great stories of her family and the war. She volunteered for many years for special needs children and was never without a German Shepherd at her side. Her passions were gardening, playing bridge, knitting and sewing, reading and debating and rescuing animals whom she took into her heart and home. She was fiercely independent to her last breath.
As per her wishes, there will be no service. Any donations to the ASPCA would be appreciated.
Autumn Funerals and Cremations handled her final requests.
