Season tickets to musicals go on sale
The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company is opening sales for its 2008 season tickets, offering holiday shoppers economical season ticket packages for a year of great entertainment. Slated for 2008:
• "Annie Get Your Gun," the Tony Award-winning revival of the acclaimed Irving Berlin gun-slinging classic, animated with sure-fire hits, including "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better," "Sun In The Mornin' And The Moon at Night," "Moonshine Lullaby," "I Got Lost In His Arms," and, of course, "There's No Business Like Show Business." The production comes to the Carson City Community Center weekends Feb. 8-17.
• "Damn Yankees," the high-spirited story of Joe Hardy as he tries to help the Washington Senators win the pennant, weekends, May 9-18. The show includes "Whatever Lola Wants" and "You Gotta Have Heart."
• In November, enjoy the Rodgers and Hammerstein masterwork, "South Pacific." Considered to be one of the greatest musicals of all time, this World War II love story won nine Tony awards, as well as an Oscar for an unforgettable score, including "Some Enchanted Evening," "Bali Ha'i and "Younger Than Springtime." The production plays at weekends, Nov. 8 -23.
Season ticket packages start as low as $36 to $45 for those who can commit to show dates when they buy their tickets. Prices for those who prefer to reserve their performance date two weeks before the show range from $39 to $48.

Aquatic Facility closed on holidays
The Carson City Aquatic Facility indoor pool will be open weekday afternoons and evenings, plus Saturdays for recreational swimming.
The Aquatic Facility will be closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day and will close early on Monday and Dec. 31. For information, call 887-2242.
Learn to dance ballroom style at senior center
Ballroom dance lessons are held from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. each Wednesday at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive.
All ages are welcome; lessons are $5 per person and instructed by Thane Cornell. For information, 885-0552.
Train to become
a local literacy volunteer tutor
The Carson City Literacy Volunteers is offering a training session for people interested in becoming a tutor to help adults learn how to read.
The dates are: Jan. 9-10, 6-9 p.m., Jan. 12, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Jan. 16-17, 6-9 p.m. All sessions must be completed for certification. Registration is $25.
The training is held at 100 N. Stewart St. and tutoring is done in the tutoring center at the same building. They do not go into people's homes to tutor.

Applications taken for firefighting jobs available online
People interested in working as wildland firefighters in Nevada next summer can apply now by completing an on-line application at the federal government's online job application site, www.usajobs.gov.
