Baby sitter's training offered

Family-to-Family Connection will offer American Red Cross Baby sitter's Training from noon-5 p.m. today at the Lyon County Human Services office at 460 W. Main St., Suite 109.

The $20 class will focus on information and skills baby sitters need to provide safe and responsible care for children. The class also includes basic care, safety, safe play and first aid.

Campbell Brothers play in Fallon

CAC will present a concert of Sacred Steel music with the Campbell Brothers at 8 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Barkley Theatre, Oats Park Art Center, 151 E. Park St., Fallon.

Tickets are $17 for CAC members, $20 for nonmembers, $10 for children/students and are available at Jeff's Copy Express, Postage Plus, ITT/NAS Fallon or by calling CAC at 423-1440. Doors will open at 7 and there will be a no-host art bar.

There will be a conversation with the artists about the roots of the musical tradition at 4 p.m. on the day of the performance; call if interested in attending. The public is welcome.

Tyson to kick off lecture series

The first lecture of the 2008 in the Gold Hill Hotel's Lecture Series will be John Tyson and Friends with cowboy music and poetry Jan. 22 at the hotel, 1540 Main St., Gold Hill.

The Lyon County Fly-In Committee is gearing up for this year's event, which brings aviation fans to the Silver Springs airport to view military, private and antique aircraft during a two-day celebration.

Virginia City

Muckers present 'The Tempest'

The Virginia City High School Theater Muckers will perform William Shakespeare's "The Tempest."

"The Tempest" is believed to be the last play written solely by Shakespeare.

The play will be performed at 7 p.m. Jan. 12 and 2 p.m. Jan. 13 in the Virginia City High School commons.

The performance was postponed last month because of snow.

Piper's throwing January birthday party potluck

A potluck birthday party will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 18 at Piper's Opera House to celebrate anyone who was born in January.

Library offers course on money management

The Lyon County Library, Nevada Literacy Office and Nevada Rural Housing Authority urge residents to take a free course on money management being offered at the Yerington Library one evening a week for six weeks.

The "Money Matters" series will provide information on money management, basic banking, managing credit and credit reports, predatory lending, "payday loans," taxes and deductions and home buying.

Learn what credit report scores mean and how much "payday loans" really cost you, as well as how to improve your credit.
