Natives and Newcomers to meet Thursday; deadline Tuesday


The Natives and Newcomers Club will meet 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Carson Nugget's upstairs banquet room. The theme this month will be "A Valentine's Day Party." RSVP's are due Tuesday. To RSVP call 885-9019 or 883-1087.




FISH and IRS to provide free tax assistance


FISH and the IRS will be teaming up for the 18th year to assist low-income and senior families with free tax preparation. Assistance will be provided on Saturdays starting this Saturday and running through April 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the FISH classroom, 138 E. Long St. suite C. Appointments are required for filing; walk-ins with questions only will be served on a time-available basis. Interested individuals should bring the 2006 tax package they received in the mail, W-2 statements, interest statements from banks (form 1099), pension forms 1099R and Social Security forms SSA1099, as well as a copy of last year's return and any other relevant information concerning income and expenses. DAWG to host 'Super Dog Saturday'


The Douglas Animal Welfare Group will hold a pet adoption event from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Douglas Animal Shelter, 921 Pinenut Road in Gardnerville. There will be special Super Dog gifts and all adult dogs and cats adopted will receive free spays or neuters. There will be a tailgate party as well, celebrating the upcoming Super Bowl. Young at Heart to hold Super Bowl party


The Douglas County Senior Center Young at Heart club's Super Bowl party at noon Sunday at the center, 2300 Meadow Lane in Gardnerville. Seniors are asked to bring a dish for eight to this potluck event. Food will be served at 1 p.m. Call 783-6455.
