A Carson City Sheriff's deputy is recovering this morning after being shot in the wrist during a drug search at a Fall Street home.

Deputy Joshua Stagliano underwent emergency surgery at 6 a.m. to repair the damage done by the 3 a.m. rifle blast at 1515 Fall St.

According to Sheriff Ken Furlong, Stagliano, a patrol deputy who will celebrate his 28th birthday tomorrow, was assisting the Special Enforcement Team during the execution of a search warrant related to methamphetamine sales.

Furlong said when officers entered the home two people in the front room were subdued . As Stagliano walked down the hallway, a man emerged and opened fire, striking Stagliano in the left wrist.

The deputy was able to return fire, but the suspect was not hit.

Furlong said Mark Daniel Fiddler, 50, is in custody, suspected of firing the shots that struck Stagliano. Charges are pending.

"He said the guy was shooting before he had a chance to react," Furlong said.

A married father of three, Stagliano has been with the Carson City Sheriff's Department since 2001.

Furlong said the deputies have not yet been able to conduct the drug search. Officers from the Nevada Division of Investigation and the Washoe County Crime Lab are on hand to handle the criminal investigation. The Carson City Sheriff's Department will conduct an independent internal investigation.

Lillian Kay Meyer, 42, was also taken into custody. It's unclear if she will be charged with anything. Another man at the scene was not identified and was being interviewed by investigators as of 7:41 a.m.
