The Yerington boys basketball team clinched the Northern 3A's No. 2 seed into the zone playoffs with a 70-19 win over North Tahoe on Saturday.

Yerington (22-7, 11-5) will open in the playoffs in a zone semifinal game at 4:40 p.m. Friday at Damonte Ranch. With a win, the Lions would clinch a spot in the NIAA 3A State Championships and possibly set up a showdown with Dayton for the Northern 4A title.

The Lions clinched the No. 2 seed when Lowry (11-5) beat Fernley 79-63 Saturday. Yerington holds the tiebreaker because it swept Lowry.

Spring Creek was 10-5 heading into Saturday's game at Incline, but Yerington also holds the tiebreaker for the No. 2 seed in the event of a three-way tie.

Against North Tahoe, Yerington led 27-22 after one quarter and 47-5 at halftime. Chris Smith led Yerington with 12 points.

"I always believed that this team had a lot of talent and could be in the top two coming out of the north," Yerington coach Daron Wildermuth said. "I always believed that."
