A Mt. Rose ski patrol member and Carson City fire captain was injured Monday morning in a snow slide on Yellow Jacket in the Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe resort southwest of Reno.
Pat Robertson, 48, of Carson City, was with patrol director Mike Ferrari conducting avalanche control about 8:50 a.m. when a small avalanche occurred 75-feet above him, according to a press release.
"He was caught in the slide and taken down the slope," the release states.
Robertson slid 600 feet down the 45-degree slope and came to a stop in trees near the bottom of the run.
"Other patrollers saw it happening and were able to call for help," said spokesman Murray Blaney.
Robertson, an employee at Mt. Rose for the past 20 years, was never underneath the snow and was conscious when rescuers arrived, Blaney said.
He was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center with a possible fractured skull and a broken leg.
Robertson is also a captain in the Carson City Fire Department. He's been with the department for more than 15 years, said Fire Chief Stacey Giomi.
"I got a chance to go up and see him and he's doing well. We're thankful right now that things are going well. We are just providing as much support as we can to him and his family," Giomi said.
