Rasners will be featured in clinic

Darrell Rasner of the New York Yankees and his cousin Jake Rasner of the Chicago White Sox organization, both from Carson City will be among those featured on Saturday at a Skills and Drills clinic fund-raiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada.

Others featured will include Galena High's Steve Lerud of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

Up to 200 youths ages 8 to 17 are invited. The clinic will be at the Stadium Sports & Fitness Club, 9393 Gateway Drive in Reno. Cost is $75 per youth.

A "Meet and Greet," also to benefit the club, is set for 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7 at the Plaza Hotel, 801 S. Carson St.

George Foster, former outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds and winner of the 1977 Most Valuable Player Award will speak. There will be auctions and a photographer to take pictures of fans posing with the players - Darrell Rasner, of the Yankees, Mike Costanzo, or the Phillies, and Matt Capps of the Pirates. Cost is $50.

This past season with the Yankees, Rasner posted a 3-1 record with a 4.43 earned run average.

Carson Bulldogs have strong outing

The Carson Bulldog wrestling club had a strong showing at the Sierra Wrestling Association's opening tournament of the season this past weekend at Dayton High School. Out of 212 wrestlers, Carson had 37 who medaled. Those who medaled were:

First - Colby Brown, Sullivan Cauley, Ricky McDonald, Kyle Sharp, Nolan Shine, Dillon Spates, Dawson Breuer. Second - A.C. Garcia, Nicolas Garcia, Riley Hutchings, Brady O'Keefe, Brady Rodina, Colin Winebarger, Kaleb Wold. Third - Jake Alferes, Brandon Basa, Treston Fowler, Marcus Gallegos, Nicholas Lani, Buddy McDonald, Willy McDonald, Nick Mohlenkapm, Brent Moyle, Nolan Shine. Fourth - Austin Brown, Tanner Garza, Luis Loe, Aaron Chester, Cole McCarthy, Bryce Moyle, Christopher Sprague, Dillon Winkelman.

Fifth - Bilyeu Mateo, Robby Easton, Austin Kiesow, Dagan Kipling, Will McLaughlin.

The Bulldogs will host the next tournament on Sunday at Carson High. Carson has a strong club again this season with more than 70 wrestlers, making it one of the strongest clubs in the SWA.
